Woman Found: Coverage notes

With missing woman Joyce Patterson found safe just after the late newscasts last night, it created a interesting scenario for the stations and coverage for the morning shows. I didn't get to see the early shows so I am interested to hear your thoughts. After watching the 5PM and 6PM shows, I think in the end KWCH did a nice job producing and packaging it. Meanwhile KSN usually is the one who comes out slow on big stories, but by the end rallies well to at least break even. Today, however it seemed the opposite. Watching at Noon, it looked like it maybe had the first interview of her husband (because it looked like it was still dark outside) and video of Joyce herself. However by 6PM, their early jump was forgotten by the light coverage, with only about 3 minutes and one reporter dedicated to it and then off to other news.
Overall the 3 stations had pretty much the same elements, although I thought it was goofy. KWCH made an effort to say something like only on KWCH you would see an interview with her daughter. The daughter's interview offered very little in the grand scheme of things. The 5PM newscasts were all handled pretty well and no station really out shined the other. They all had multiple angles and reporters at various locations. As I said before, KWCH probably came out best at 6PM. It wasn't because they had anything the others didn't have (outside of the daughter), but everything came together with a purpose. Meanwhile the competition at KAKE looked like they just threw stuff together with little strategy and KSN looked like they were tired of the story by 6PM and moved on. I still don't understand that because they had all of the elements the other 2 stations had at 5PM, however it was like they just backed off or set their 6PM show yesterday and never changed it. -Hal

Today the green-ness of KAKE and KSN's reporting team was evident. They were way out of their league. I think it's about time we them some big-boy pants.

Anon 840, I dont see as much greenness with KSN as you say. Josh Wittsman looks young but he can put the best wrap-up stories (incorporating a day's worth of news from multiple stories into one) together in the market. Chanda, however does appear smaller level as does the fill-in anchor Aileen. As for KAKE, Hal you said it best, it was just thrown together. Deb does OK and is their best, but can get easily distracted on live shots. Abby is small market at best and Jennifer Bocchieri basically repeats everything that was said the previous 5 minutes.

I beg to differ about Deb being the best at KAKE. Natasha Trelfa blows Deb out of the water. I agree about the Abby comment. Not sure why they keep her on the air. Then again KAKE is studio B tv.

Anyone see the HUGE mistake they made on air like a week ago? Sue popped up with no audio for like the first 45 seconds of the newscast?? What was that all about? I don't know what is going on over there, but the on air mistakes as of late have been out of control.

Here's the thing, none of the people you mentioned covered this. It was a new guy on KAKE and Abby Barnett. On KSN it was someone I didn't even know there name.

Anon 941, Deb covered it for KAKE along with Abby, and Jennifer. Over at KSN, Josh Haskell did cover it early in the morning and at Noon, but then by 5PM both Chanda and Josh covered it with only Josh covering it by 6PM.

KWCH ruled the day Sunday. They were the only station to have Joyce and the entire family. Yes the paper did their little blurb on Sunday also. But was before the announcement of a suspect.

KWCH also were the only ones to have the suspect's house and talk to his neighbors during the early evening shows.

They also had the story on the web it looks like an hour at least before KAKE and KSN. Looks like those two were playing catch up all day.

The only people that care about this are people in the news business.

God all of you are SO small market! A lame story in a lame market in a lame state.....yeah there is something to brag about!

KSN doesn't even have an early show on Sunday. Pay attention.

Well, the "lame small market" in this "lame small state" is of some significant importance to the folks here

Yeah and ONLY the folks here! Stop trying to act like you are saving the world over at KWCH.
