Prison Break Update
So day 2 of the Prison break and we saw the stations all try to develop angles on the Prison escape story. As a total complete package of coverage, I thought KWCH did a decent job. They owned the story at 5 and 6PM and continued it through 10PM. The interview with the mother was a great get and I believe they were the only ones with it, and they also called it, "Exclusive." There must have been some sort of a "friendly" understanding to only do the interview with them, because I would assume everyone would have followed to get her Today. KSN had a decent effort at 10PM with an interview of the brother of the prison guard who aided in the escape. On a pure emotional scale, the interview with the brother was better than the mother. From an overall viewpoint of things, I thought KWCH gave a solid perspective of things with all angles covered. KAKE'e personal angle at 10PM was a former inmate who knew one of the escapees. In comparison to the family member interviews I don't think it was as solid. On most other stories, the interview would probably have been viewed as a great get. -Hal

A mother's emotional plea to that of a brother. There is no comparison.
I think from the time the story broke, KWCH has owned this story and it felt today like everyone else was playing catch up.
I'm still waiting on the discussion of the Sports Departments in Wichita and the Morning shows... We had those offered as subjects but Hal's never published his thoughts on them. I'm sure he'll suck up to KWCH like usual and then the KWCH posters will call it criticism though.
It's not about the supercicdial comparison of a mother vs. a brother. It was about the presentation of the story. They were both good. KWCH and KSN had very good stuff and put forth strong efforts.
KSN didn't have the Cheever trial where he was found guilty at 4:30pm while KAKE and KWCH did, its obvious who the top 2 stations in the market are for reliable breaking news
There is no comparison when it comes to the sports departments. KWCH is #1 and with good reason.
Sports Sunday is a fixture on Sunday nights and has been for years. KAKE's "Overtime Live" is all flash and no substance while Sports Sunday is the real sports-fan's show.
Also, KWCH sends a crew to almost every home game for K-State or KU, not to mention the Chiefs. Neither KAKE or KSN send anyone to the Chiefs and rarely do they even head to Manhattan or Lawrence.

Please get your facts straight. This is simply not accurate.
Actually it is.
The Goff mother is Schwanke's neighbor. That's why she wouldn't talk to anyone else. They simply lucked out, like all stations do at one point or another.
Don't know how the sports comments ended up in the prison break post but whoever believes the other channels don't go to Manhattan or Lawrence must only tune in to 12. All three are there, not just kwch and there are usually spots about the games on the following day as well. It's okay to stroke the ego of just one channel but try using accuracy to do it.

These are just more jealous rants from people at 2 stations who got their a$$es handed to them this week by KWCH. If posting on this board is their way of getting even, fine. But maybe they should spend more of their time improving their product. Just an idea.
