Local Election Coverage Feed Back

I'll let this post be just for all of the readers as you watch the local stations and their coverage of the election returns Tonight. I don't really expect anything all that surprising as far as coverage goes. In part, I think the local races for Congress and Senate should be decided early with little surprises. As you watch and you see something interesting post a comment and let the discussion begin. -Hal

Hal, what do you think about the websites for the local races.

Whats up with KWCH having local stuff while everyone else is running National of the Historic moment of Obama being elected President?

Hal- I think KWCH's squeeze of the election results and the national video is terrible because you can barely see the screen of the video. KAKE's is reduced but not near as bad as KWCH's. I could care less that I am seeing a spiraling "12" and a flag on KWCH, I'd rather see a picture of McCain or Obama than that. Overall I think KSN has the cleanest look with results.

I agree with Anon 8:06. KWCH was a little behind switching to National Tonight when the networks were first saying Obama was elected. It happened again tonight during Obama's victory speech. They were in local news and out the Obama speech the very last.

More crap from KAKErs and KSNrs with no truth to it. KWCH had the calling of the race was before everyone else, Kim Wilhelm delivered it instantly, all the speeches live. Give me a break. More bitter apples from stations who cannot even afford to go HD or pay their employees well for the work they do.

You go to your network when your network calls the race. They wouldn't go to it until CBS called it and not before. To do so would make no sense.

10:05 are you freaking kidding me?
KSN pays their employees better than the other stations. In fact, I believe KWCH has some of the lowest paid reporters in the market. Get over yourself.

KWCH covered one part of the race well, Topeka, but that was it. I thought they lacked a nice spread of different issues liked the other stations had.

No one trounced anyone, but the story of this election was KSN. Maybe they benefitted from NBC, but they seemed to have the most critical things on at the right times and they looked very well produced.

Right. KSN has cut corners for years under how many owners, 4... 5?

Anon 10:05, Not a KAKE'er or KSN'er here, but a viewer. Your wrong on your comment. KWCH did not have it first. As a viewer, I have to say 12 was really difficult to watch all night visually.

This is for all ya alls...I personally am sick of all of the graphics. Give me a good clear picture with nothing else and I am happy. I already know what network/station I am watching thank you. Don't treat me like I can't figure it out with all of your flashy graphics!!!!!

Actually, I was more concerned with the national elections. A small scroll along the bottom with results would have been suffice. I did not care about seeing Pat Roberts claiming victory live.

My TV was on CNN, Foxnews & MSNBC most of the night.

Let the criticism of the viewer begin!

This was a Network-centric night--and both ABC and NBC were great. They LOOKED great and did a fantastic job. CBS is just God awful. I feel bad for Katie, she does a pretty good job but has absolutely no support. The overnight ratings show a very close battle between NBC and ABC -and CBS trailing both by more than 40%. KWCH is hurt by their network news affiliation. CNN was much better than CBS.

I was about to say KSN was spared by technical problems on Tuesday night and their election coverage. Then comes Wednesday and the Ron Prince Resignation and Yikes did that look ugly.

Too bad 12 makes up for it on their end and have twice the ratings of the nearest competitor. NBC's news ratings however are the only good thing affiliates have with that network. Primetime is a distance No. 4 now and still slipping. CBS remains No.1 with FOX close and ABC third.

Expect more from KWCH? Does that mean we should expect more instances of 30 seconds or more of black in the middle of packages and vo/sot's? God, you people over there are so full of it.

Maybe local TV stations shouldn't mess around with phoners and leave it to the radio guys. Both KSN and KWCH had issues on stories regarding the K-State football coach being fired. He talked to the media via a phone conference so there was no video of the announcement. KSN at 6 and KWCH at 10 had black showing when they played audio of Prince from the phone conference.

I was amazed that Kobe & Shopes were so far out of touch with the K-State fan base that they were both surprised Prince is gone.

The fans have been wanting his head on a plate most of this season.

Well, well, well... 12's ID theft story was the best sweeps story so far. Michael Schwanke's DUI story looks good too. It seems the puff pieces on KSN about religion and the makeover health tips on KAKE are the same BS. No tough journalism at the No. 2 and 3 shops in town.

Really? Who hasn't done the ID theft sweeps piece at some point? Nothing monumental.

Anon. 5:56am

I doubt that KSN pays better than the other stations.

Afterall, they're the same station that wouldn't spend the money for an alternator belt for their Sat-Truck during the Jodi Sanderholm deal.

Seems like they have tons of cash to me though!
