At least it wasn't the lead. Yes, the reporter tried to have fun with the topic. Still, I thought it was still a little bit of a stretch to do a full story on the allegation of ants at a local fast food restaurant. KAKE's Cayle Thompson got to (literally) the bottom of the bag to get to the story. Apparently a posting on Myspace said there allegedly were ants at a Burger King on the east side of town. So Cayle went to investigate even pulled a part his burger as part of his "picnic" and couldn't find any ants. So he had to resort to talking to clueless people outside of the Burger King to ask them what they would think if they found ants. It was a dumb story, but I give Cayle credit, it couldn't have been far worse. He did what he could out of a lame topic. At least he didn't use a cheesy line about extra protein or anything like that.

OK KWCHers, mark this down Hal is praising you. Well, sort of. I think you need to use the Fact Finder12 more often as you did on Sunday with info of the last Pizza robberies. You'll say you use the FactFinder often, but I say usually it doesn't come across as useful as it did on Sunday. It fit well with the main story and had information that one might want to know after watching the lead. -Hal

I'm getting a little tired of reading "OK KWCHers mark this down, I'm praising you". If they are so good, why do they whine so much?
Because many of Hal's KWCH comments are unfair, biased and inaccurate.
Did anyone catch KSN's news at 10 and think it was strange to see Paul Petite reporting live at a shooting? Has he been bumped off of the main anchor desk at 10PM?
WOW. I must say I was watching and the extra weather coverage on all three stations kind of bothered me, but eventhough I noticed Paul out in the field it didn't occur to me. If this is indeed true, I wonder why now for the change and what in particular made management finally take him off of the 10PM anchor desk, a decision that I feel was needed long ago. -Hal
I am a KWCHer, and although I often think Hal is wrong, I don't think he has a bias against our station. Whoever it is that keeps whining that he does, please stop. You're making the rest of us look bad. I welcome any constructive criticism.
I thought Cayle's story was not only newsworthy - I thought it was good TV. I think it was a slow news day, and therefore the opportunity to do a fun story presented itself. Conversely, the slow news day must have given you nothing else to complain about.
He said "I can't see ants, there were none in my food, so there must not be any."
If not a dumber line has ever been uttered on TV I don't know what.
Hal-A poster commented that Paul Petite had been bumped from the main anchor chair at 10PM. After reading a blog on KSN.com, is that the only change going on over there. Just when you thought you saw enough of Dave on even a quiet night, the blog by Jason Kravarik says you'll get a new segment called, "Weather First," right off the top even before the news starts. They say "it's because people constantly tell us that weather is the most important reason you turn into our newscast." Woah. What are you thoughts.

My thought is this: KSN has already given its credibility as a source for news for the following reasons.
1) They are a day late on most stories it seems unless it is breaking news and even then they are still behind.
2)Putting useless feature live-shots, that are most times commercials, at the start of the 5 is beyond beliefe. When people tune in to see the first local news of the day since noon they want news, not some anchor with a rabbit, ferret or other animal on his shoulder.
3) Sometimes weather should and needs to lead. When it is 103 on Wed, 102 on Thursday people know it will be 100-something on Friday.
KSN's new start of the show:
"Six people gunned down in Old Town but first how hot will it be tomorrow. Let's go to Dave in the Weather Center to find out. Dave?
But wait, there are only about a dozen people watching KSN News so I guess they could have talked to each of them and found that they really do want "Weather First."
An internet rumor on ants at a Burger King. And a couple of patrons who never saw ants there before. Wow, the hard hitting work from KAKE just won't end. I smell a Murrow-- well, maybe a Geraldo.
KSN has the same number of viewers as KAKE. Stop trying to turn clever phrases, and start knowing the TV business. I stopped reading this blog a long time ago not because of Hal, but because it only proves how mediocre and spiteful his readers are. We all do some things right, and we all do some things wrong. Get over it, and worry about yourselves.
If you think KSN's viewers are anywhere near KAKE's, much less KWCH's then you don't know the first thing about TV.
KSN is behind KAKE but not that drastically in the numbers.... KSN is 3rd yes, but its not a miserable dead end last place, they are 2nd at 6pm and have a competitive morning show....
Of course they have room for improvements and have errors and flaws, but I'm sure they are a money making operation...
About 4 years ago KAKE was in 3rd behind KSN....However the KAKE approach the last few years has won them some viewers
KWCH is #1, but have you ever seen a station put their and the competition's raw numbers on the website. They are definitely tooting their horn. The May numbers have been up on their site since July, according to the site stamp. One interesting note is to see the break down of the days of following the Greensburg tornado and the big surge in ratings all of the stations took in from that.

KSN is not #2 anywhere except briefly in the morning because of they are the Today Show lead-in. Get a clue.
