Its Winter Weather Woody Warning Time!!!

I'll call the "Winter Weather Season" as the time generally between November through March where we have a chance for crazy alarmist forecasts, constant reminders to slow down, instructions on how to drive on ice and numerous measurements with rulers and occasionally yardsticks, otherwise known as a Winter Weather Woody Warning. After watching KAKE at 6, I think we are in our first Winter Weather Woody Warning of the season. I know there was ice this morning and sure some accidents and fatalities, but is it worth leading a whole newscast with a story showing minor fender benders and the interview with police and troopers telling people to slow down. No. Its a waste of a couple of minutes. Today it is worth an anchor reading over maybe 15 seconds of video, max. The storm isn't even to hit until tomorrow and I am sure then we will hear even more fun stuff and shots of stores unpacking shovels. My question, annually after seeing every "first season snowfall shovel story:" Where do everyones shovels go from April-December? Is there that many people moving into Kansas in that time frame, to sell that many shovels? Surely everyone just can't lose a shovel in a few months. Maybe they are disposable. Who knows? -Hal

You prove your ignorance more and more with each blog.

You can't blame any of the stations for doing extensive coverage of winter weather, or any other kind of weather. Look at the ratings on nights of big weather events. In markets with overnight ratings like KC, OKC, or Denver, you can see the ratings jump at just the hint of weather. Sure, many stations could probably do a better job of enterprising stories related to the weather, but you can't ignore what viewers have come to you looking for. A station that didn't do at least some coverage would lose viewers who'd go searching for it somewhere else.

Amen Brother Hal!

I once heard a quote that sums it all up... "Is it weather or armegaddon?"

I just love how the minute the first snowflake hits the ground Freeman, Teller, and especially Prater are on the air scaring the crap out of everyone.

Hey jerk offs....it is snow we get it every year here, we ALL know what to do when the skies open up and dump the white stuff on us.

I just love how these pompus ass's talk down to everyone in the TV viewing world like we are all too damn dumb to know what to do when severe weather hits.

I couldn't agree more!

"Drive slow becuase it's icy out and ice is slick"

DUH DUH DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE AREN'T DUMB

whos said ice is slick? thats an exaggeration... come on, no weather guy is going to stand up there and explain that ice is slick. However, when this weather hits, it's expected that certain reminders and winter weather precautions will be said.

"we aren't dumb?"

Then how come we had more than 130 accidents? Sounds to me like somebody's pretty freakin stupid!

I know it sucks to do these weather stories. I hated them when I was still in the biz. But I'll tell ya, it's the one time my wife watches morning TV. There is a service to provide there and frankly, it's one of only a few times that local news is still truly valuable.

A major ice storm is bearing down and KSN hasn't updated their website since Sunday night. Sad and pathetic.

Actually they have had frequent web updates and cut ins on tv. You are clearly misinformed.

This is obscene. KSN during what may be the biggest weather story since Greensburg is absent online. Their Top Story (Morrison) hasn't changed since Sunday night. Their only weather story is one on closings and delays. The rest are weekend stories. KWCH and KAKE are doing laps around them online. What is up over there? Seriously.

You are clearly the one who does not know what he or she is talking about. The two stories they have up about today's storm were not posted until 8:26 tonight. Before then there was one closing list and that was it. What they do on TV is irrelevent. Many more people in a situation like this go to the web instead of waiting for whenever an update comes on. KSN should have done a better job is all.

As for the TV side, KWCH and KAKE have been doing hourly updates since mid-day on the hour or a minute before. I have seen but one or two on KSN. I guess they don't want to interrupt such important programs as Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune for information that can save people's lives.

KSN has been doing hourly updates as well.
