New Year's Resolutions and Where is Prater

I somehow deleted all of your New Year's Resolutions you passed along the way. Strange thing though is that the post had nearly as many comments wondering what happened to Prater. I managed to get those posted as comments. Some recently have posted they cannot find any info on Prater. I have heard many different stories generally pointing to KAKE not resigning him and a part where his job was posted on the internet possibly before he was even officially notified. However as of Saturday night his picture and bio are still on the KAKE site. It gave me a chance to read his bio. Very impressive with the three Murrow Awards, various Emmy nominations and of course the big regional Emmy win with the design of the "KAKEland WeatherPlex "set for '06. The awards that impressed me most, was that he is the current defending and two time champ of the State Fair Grape Stomp. -Hal

Praters Bio reads:

Name: Jay Prater, CBM™
Title: Managing Meteorologist

The job listing is for Chief Meteorologist... could they be different positions?

Who cares where he's going, just as long as he's going!!!

Did anyone else find it completely unprofessional for KSN to have L. Lock out at a house fire at 6 on New Years Eve dressed like she was already at a party. Her hair was done, she had what appeared to be party outfit on and big shiney earings. Unprofessional but then again what do you expect from KSN.
I find it amazing that some on here, Hal included, say KSN has the best reporting team in town. That's a joke and this proves it.

you're going to base how somebody looks on how good a reporting staff is? YOU'RE THE JOKE!

I was too busy listening to her reporting to recall what she was wearing. Get a life and worry about something important.

I've seen Cindy Klose in a hot, red leather suit. Unprofessional? No, because like Lauragail they both presented themselves intelligently. This is a sexist argument. Channel 12's morning man looks like he's going out to a club every time he fixes his hair, but no one complains about that.

You have got to be kidding me. Since when is a furry collared jacket and hoop earrings a "party outfit"? Because it was worn on New Year's Eve?? Give me an effing break. No one smoke what Anon. #3 is smoking because it apparently makes you hallucinate...UNBELIEVEABLE.

Oh and this just in: KSN STILL has the best reporting team in town. period.

The joke that is KSN continues. Leading with the Iowa Caucus on a night when the Jayhawks are in the BCS Bowl Game? Is anyone over there thinking. No one in the state cares about that tonight and anyone who does is watching it on cable.

They are a joke and there is a reason they are about at scratch marks when it comes to ratings and this is it.

They may have dropped the ball leading with the caucuses the night of the Orange Bowl, but if you really care about the Bowl, you are watching the game and not the newscast, so one could argue both ways on that one. I thought overall KSN has been real strong with their Orange Bowl coverage.

That's because you work there. Their talent is the most stale and monotone in the market. There's no excitement and they are trodding out all the old cliches.

Yes the game was going on and there wasn't much anyone could do but to not even have a KU story, some type of story, that's just pathetic.

What a nice surprise seeing MS Rocha anchoring KWCH Saturday Morning News. Nice job, Gator Girl!

Hal-I think the blog has become nothing more than a pissing match between people who work at the three stations.
I think you should screen the commnets, and if there's nothing constructive on them, than forget it.

Everyone who cared about the game was watching the game and not the news.

I can't believe your argument is that someone led with the presidential race. The game was on the other channel, KSN had the score off the top, and covered the presidential race. That makes perfect sense. What's more disgusting is that both other stations waited till the B block to mention the caucus. Get your small brain back in your skull and realize that you're not God's gift to news.

Yes, Alana did very well.
Great job!

Amen to setting this small brained-guy straight. It's hilarious the argument you are trying to make. Come On! 12 and 10 did wait until the second segment before they even mentioned the caucus. Yeah, your right, KSN should have done what 12 did. Have a reporter at a bar in Lawrence and then toss to another reporter at a bar in Wichita- All while the game was still airing! What a complete waste of airtime.

KSN's ratings are scratch marks now. They missed the shooting completely this weekend.

There is no excitement. Their anchors are boring and monotone. They are using cliches like "Weather First" or having people give the three fingers at the end of the show crap.

They have kickers in the first block. The list goes on and on. There is not one positive thing about that station right now. I know it's harsh but that's the truth.

I don't define crime scene video as "success."

Will the 2 people who are bickering on here just stop already? You're both wrong, you're both wasting your time, and I'll bet you both are so green in this business that you get off on little p***ing matches like this. There are more important things to discuss in this business.

Hal, I'm curious so know your views on KWCH's 7-9 morning show on the CW. It's been on for about a week. What are your thoughts?

The last person's comment was right on the money. It seems here in Wichita, we have a bunch of people who've been in the business for a few years, who act like they've been in it for 22 years. Little do they know how lucky they are that they got into the business relatively recently.
It used to be you couldn't get into Wichita without at least 3-4 years of experience.
So please, stop your bickering and focus on how fortunate you really are.

The kake job is no longer posted... I have a feeling Prater inked a new deal

People who blog anonymously are always willing to kick someone out of a job. Would they be willing to lose theirs over someone's opinion who they didn't know and may not be qualified to even comment? If your station is complained about, ignore it or fix it. If you aren't in the biz and don't like a station or its people, don't watch that show. It's pretty simple. Every local network has strengths and weaknesses. The dream set up would be Cindy Klose, Jim Kobe, weather's a toss-up, Michael Scwanke, Kim Willhelm, Mark Davidson, but we can't pick that way. I think we all know there are some we would like to never see on air but most employers have people who never get it right. We just don't have the opportunity to change the channel in life like we do on tv.
