Officer Involved Shooting Coverage

I was watching the early morning shows, first on KAKE and then on KWCH and learned of an officer involved shooting on Friday night. KAKE had a full story from Natasha Trelfa who I think in a short period of time has become one of KAKE's best reporters. Not to take anything away from Trelfa, but she is one of the best at a station with probably the weakest staff in the market. KWCH had a full story from normal weekday morning anchor Matt Mauro. Stories from both of the stations provided good information the morning after, at a time when it was hard to find information online. The argument is often made that the internet is the future of the business, however the online offerings for this story were slow in coming. By this morning all 3 TV stations had mentions online of the event. However, it was nearly 12 hours after the incident, before the Eagle had the story on their website. Even then their information came from the AP and said the condition of the suspect was unknown, while the TV stations were all saying the suspect had died around 2AM. -Hal

hey Hal,

you missed the best part...KSN was showing a breaking news crawl (we have crews on the way, etc.) several times from 630am-9am this morning. they are HORRIBLE!

You are right--the eagle was terrible in getting the info online this morning..especially knowing that the event occured shortly before 11pm last night.

KSN's new promo--"one step forward..two steps back."

KAKE was also running fresh info this morning in that the suspect died while ch.12 was running the initial info from mauro (suspect was in grave condition) and did not check back in this morning for any updates.

Smackavelli,
KSN should have refreshed their crawl or pulled it this morning, because they were the first and only ones with info about that shooting with the crawl hitting the air around 1AM.

"KAKE was also running fresh info this morning in that the suspect died while ch. 12 was running initial info.."

Get real. No one's at home with a scorecard. Maybe they also gave Mauro a run-scoring double in the fifth inning.

KSN was the only station do anything on air last night. They're not horrible. Stop pounding your chest, smack.

Thats what I dont understand about KSN, many stories just like this, they often times lead then just fail to capitalize on that. Then KWCH and or KAKE look better at the end, even if KSN broke the story first

Actually KWCH had that the suspect died at the start of their morning show.

The story was also on their website a full hour before anyone else. Don't make crap up Smack.

A crawl doesn't count as doing something on air.

I wouldn't necessarily say KAKE is the weakest station in the market. Every station has their power-houses when it comes to talent. Those people would still be a force if they worked for another station in town. Likewise, every station has their weak links that would, again, be a weak link at the other stations. Some station's struggles lately haven't been so much with their talent as with decisions higher up that end up impacting what the team can accomplish.

This is off topic but does anyone know what kwch's former reporter Joe Sheeran is up to these days?
