KWCH-KFDI Casino debate

So not to be outdone by the baseball story, KWCH sponsored a debate along side KFDI radio on the upcoming casino vote. It was done from the studios of KFDI radio. I kind of question the reasoning behind this. I think it would have looked better if they could have done it in the TV studio rather than a radio studio. You could tell the studio was tight on space and the wide shot of everything wasn't good because often times you saw more of the back of Michael Schwanke's head than you did of him and the rest of those involved. I think radio has less technical things to worry about, so you would think it would have been easier to have it at the TV station. With that said, there definitely was good information discussed by all in the debate and I'd encourage those who are still up in there air or maybe even if you made your mind up, to check out the debate now on the KWCH web site. -Hal

You can't even praise KWCH for one thing. "The space was too small" isn't that what you said. You must get some joy out of attacking the dominant station in the market.

Since you won't tell us who you are I am going to guess by process of elimination.

You bash KWCH so you can't work there.
You bash KAKE so you can't work there.
You make excuses for why KSN is #3 sometimes #4, why they have technical issues, why they miss big stories (like the large fuel spill into a river in Salina on Sunday.)

So you must work at KSN or did at one point. Am I right? I think I am.

Anon #1. You might as well just label yourself a KWCH Employee. I said that positive info came out of the debate, but someone who doesn't know TV, would have to say the format did notlook that flattering in that small booth. I think I am the first to bash KSN just as much as the next guy. I said flat out they performed like a 3rd and EVEN a 4th ranked station at 10PM Tonight. I said they missed the fuel spill, but the story of the day turned out to be the Wranglers. Why is KSN #3, lets be honest technical glitches and bad management and decisions. I have said it before plenty of times in this blog, but the allegience your fellow KWCHers have for your product is unbelievable since it pretty much rests on the shoulders of 2 quality anchors and one or two reporters. As I have said time and time again, outside of Roger and Cindy, there is not a real good alternative for anchors in this town. As for reporters I think it would be easy to name 7 or 8 real quick from the others who could replace all but a couple of KWCH's. Once again my TV experience comes up. I shutter to think what is going on at the stations in Wichita. Is so much brainwashing going on at your station that you have such allegience toward your own, while they pay you next to nothing in this industry. Does Wichita TV do good work? Yes, better then many towns who are even larger. Face it, you people in this town, who work in TV, love what you do and more power to you all, but don't be afraid to take a step back and look at things without a bias, once or twice. You know if you do that, you might make yourself an even more dominant number 1 than you already are.-Hal

The fuel spill happened early Sunday morning and was only two thousand gallons.

But at the time they didn't know how large or how small this spill was. In fact, they said it could be up the 4,000. The fact is KSN missed it like many thinks were late.

Now as for Hal, how are things up on high? Who are you to judge anyone in this business? People like you said who don't get paid enough or get many vacations or all sorts of other things people take for granted.

Journalists of all stripes put themselves out there day in and day out, at number #1 stations and number #3 stations because they feel a responsibility to do what they do.

Can you really say whatever it is you do makes a difference? I sincerly doubt it.

I think the stations in this town would be better if they just ignored your ramblings...your personal attacks on people (I can name 3 or 4 people you have maligned on here in a very personal way)...you lecturing people about how to do their jobs.

I for one will not visit this site again and I hope everyone else does the same.

Goodbye Hal.

anon... who are those 3 or 4 people? I need examples, because I havent read HAL really bashing anyone personally... has he?

Of course people are going to get defensive when you bash their hard work- human nature Hal.

Is it embarassing when you can obviously tell who posters work for? Heck yes it is. If they didn't care about what you had to say, they wouldn't get their panties in a knot and wouldn't visit this "stupid blog", to quote you.

Station employees- take a deep breath, it'll be ok. It's just some guys opinion who in the grand scheme of things, doesn't matter. He could be a disgruntled employee who was fired because he sucked at his job and this is the only way to prove his self worth- anonymously.

And Hal- you COULD tell us what you used to do. I'm pretty sure that wouldn't give anyone any ideas as to who your alterego is. Throw a bone, man.

The leak wasn't that big because 12 didn't even post any video on their site or even an update to the story until Monday.

As an admitted "Channel 12'er" I would like to say that this blog should be used for what it is here for. Constructive, (seemingly)unaffiliated criticism...nothing more.

I don't know why these anonymous people feel the need to take what Hal says as gospel. It isn't. It's just one person's opinion.

If he once worked in TV news, he is a credible source for criticism. If he hasn't, that makes him an even better source as an everyday Joe who pays attention to the news.

Sure, his posts can be a little slighted toward KWCH. But, I don't see any harm in holding us to a higher standard. If some schmo from Texas is arrested for DUI, no one would care. If that schmo is the President, it would be a huge deal. Why? Because he's a leader and he's held to a higher standard.

How can anyone take KSN's casino stories seriously after their bloated GM does an on air editorial against the casino? What was that windbag thinking?

I believe it aired at noon on Thursday.

Unbelievable. As if they didn't have enough problems over there. You can ad credibility to the list now as well.
